A proud Bandanese, Mira was the eldest daughter of her beloved father, the late Des Alwi ‘The Boy from Banda’ and a cult figure in Indonesian history.

A graduate of Sorbonne, Paris, an MA in child psychology from the State University of Sandiego, a background in the hospitality industry and a gift for languages. Mira’s accomplishments included, sales & marketing directorships for luxury resort hotels in Bali such as the Bali Hyatt in Sanur, Begawan Giri and GHM properties of Indonesia (The Serai, Chedi’s, Legian). The excellent partnerships that she has created for M&M will live on as a company legacy and beautiful venue options for our clients.

From 2000-2011 Mira represented the Berlin based PR, marketing and lifestyle company ‘Design Hotels™’ as Director of Business Development Asia. Her role included the sourcing, selection and assessment of prospect hotels into Design Hotels™ members portfolio. This gave Mira an Asian marketing edge and the ability to feed M&M with exciting new ideas.

Mira was the late wife of Michael Szarata (founder & managing consultant) and together their initials formed ‘M&M’. This fusion of both their expertise and passion for creating innovative experiences in Bali’s food and hospitality industry will always live on in the quality and attitude of M&M ‘s innovative concepts.

It was Mira’s dream to bring her expertise to Maulana, the Alwi family hotel in Banda, which is now inherited by the new generation.
